Breezy seems to be settling in well. Isabella has definitely taken over with being alpha mare, which is quite interesting because she has always been zeta mare in ever herd she's been in. I think she's being a bit over the top with her.. herding her everywhere any chance she gets, but I am hoping that this is settle down once she is comfortable with her new top position.
We had the farrier appointment earlier this week and Breezy acted up a bit, being anxious since this was the 2nd time "away" from Isabella. I swear, these horses... make me shake my head and sigh sometimes. Isabella was running around everywhere, upset Breezy was gone, and finally settled in the far spot they were hanging out when you were here. You'd think she'd hang out near the gate where Breezy was, but no. Anyways, Breezy reared up once waiting for the farrier then again when the farrier was here. Fortunately, Steve Foxworth and his apprentice, George are both really awesome horsehandlers and worked with Breezy a bit and she was much better behaved. Isabella is super sensitive so I barely have to sneer at her to shape up when she's misbehaving, but Breezy requires a bit more knocking at the door before getting through to her, especially when distracted. :)
We celebrated Breezy's 1 week anniversary of being with us with a ride! Renewed my faith in her yesterday after the misbehaving with the farrier. Had her out, got her concentrating on me instead of Isabella (still gotta work on that.. was very nervous when I took her out to where my trailer was and couldn't see Isabella). Got up and rode her for a bit at a walk.. got her stopped and standing and turning, getting used to Isabella's S-hackamore. Meanwhile, the winds were horrendous. She has the nose to foot thing down pat.. methinks the previous trainer did A LOT of circling with her because she'll just zero in on the foot when you ask her to bend. Not necessarily good because she doesn't disengage all the time which I'll work on. She really impresses me *knock wood x1000* because I haven't seen her spook yet. I can't stand teleporters... :)
Told Matt yesterday that I've had Isabella for 7 years.. come off of her 3 times, all my fault for doing stupid things. I can picture myself coming off of Breezy A LOT more!! haha... she is slab sided and I feel like I'm sitting on top of a pyramid with her shape! She is taller than Isabella but way narrower.
Both Matt and I love her.
