Red Hole Sun
This morning driving to work the sun was on the horizon, red. No doubt from all of the fires going on in California at the moment. Coworkers that live in SF and Hayward said their cars were covered in ashes this morning. And a ride in Greenville was cancelled.
After a bit of scrambling and discovering that another ride going on this weekend, the NATRC Mt Diablo ride, was cancelled, I found another in Humboldt, the
Cuneo Creek Elevator endurance ride was still going on (and most likely going to fill up fast with the Patriot's day ride cancelled). So I faxed in my entry lickity split this morning and hooray, I'm still good to go to a ride this weekend. Must pack mosquito repellent! This will only be a 1 day ride of 30 miles, but it is also an elevator ride.. like the Oakland elevator ride I attempted 2 years ago on our first try at a 50. If Isabella looks good at the end of 30 miles, I can go ahead and give it a try for 20 more miles. Another plus is that temps for this ride are forcasted in the low 70s, much more pleasant than the high 80s (and smokey) for the Patriot's day ride.
But enough about my weekend. All these fires going on are horrible! All around the state.. and in these especially dry times it's so easy for them to spread. I drive past the Burlingame water reserve every morning and see how low the water levels are. Damn you global warming.
