Last night Matt and I went to Target where I bought a Mr. Coffee 4-cup coffee maker. This, my friends, is my first ever coffee maker purchase! As I'm getting on in years, I'm learning to appreciate a cup of really good coffee. When we go to Nona's Kitchen for breakfast on Sundays, we relish the coffee we're served there.. it's heavenly! The first batch of coffee we brewed was just as delicious, but not quite as substancial (the brute force of Nona's coffee is unsurpassed). I bought both caf/decaf (Starbucks and Seattle's Best) so I can enjoy my coffee in the evenings as well. Oh so very yummy! Only problem was I got up to pee about 5x last night. :( Oh well, I can't wait to have another cup tonight!

Off riding..

This past weekend, Amit&S, Walt, Merima & John, Laquel, China, Matt and I went to the Humboldt Redwoods for a few fun-filled days of camping.

The 5-hour drive up was uneventful. We stopped at Jack in the Box for lunch (which got a few people sick) and stopped for some assorted sundries at Walmart (Merima's first time in a Walmart!) before arriving at Hidden Springs Campground in Humboldt Redwood Park. The campsite has about 150+ sites plus bathrooms, showers, firepits, picnic benches, and millions of blood thirsty mosquitoes. They were everywhere.. I don't think any of us escaped without getting bitten once, and poor Merima came out of the weekend with more than a baker's dozen.

Everyone went to sleep pretty early that night. At about 3am, I got up to go to the bathroom and was FREAKED OUT by a red light descending into our campground. Everything was very hazy from the smoke and light diffused from the tall redwoods around us so I couldn't see it very well. I stood there wondering who the heck it was, and just in case it was someone I knew, I didn't want to freak them out by standing still, so I took a few steps in a circle, keeping my eyes on the freaky apparition. (I learned later that I looked equally as creepy with my black hair draped over my face, walking around in aimless circles, haha!) Then I hear a quiet, "Julienne??" Turns out it was Walt coming back from the bathrooms. I almost smacked him for scaring me so badly, but was so tired I just trudged up to the bathrooms. I was actually just going to use some bushes nearby, but now that Walt was up I had to actually go up to the bathrooms *grumble*. :P

The next day, we drove about 25 windey miles to Shelter Cove, a nearby beach where we could escape the heat and mosquitoes. We found a really cute spot to eat lunch and play Uno, frisbee, and toss the football around right above a rocky beach and next to a old windmill. In the surf, there were little sea lion heads that would pop out and look around at the beachgoers every so often. SO VERY CUTE.

In the evening, we finished up Walt's bday cake from the night before and roasted marshmellows late into the night, chatting. Walt apparently was very tired because his snoring was enough to rouse the campsite nearby where Laquel, John & Merima were sleeping, and I found out in the morning that I joined him in a few snoring choruses (it was China, not me!).

Very very fun, good times with the gang.

Going on week 3 without DSL.. kite festival in Berkeley this weekend.

Life has slowly been settling down.. the past two weeks with July 4th and the Gold Country ride has been a bit hectic. We finally have a quiet weekend ahead of us. Matt will be going to classes both Saturday and Sunday mornings and I have a mellow trail ride planned for tomorrow. Tomorrow evening is also Walt's pahtee. Woohoo! Originally I was planning on going to the Swanton NATRC ride, my first ever competitive trail ride from 4 years ago, but after emailing the ride secretary twice and not recieving an application, I decided that maybe God was telling me to chill out and relax for a weekend. Also, I'm totally camped out and next weekend is the big camping trip with the gang. Funfun. :)

Disney is turning Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs into a Chinese martial arts movie. How wierd is that?

Back to work today after a 4 day holiday weekend. We need to have 4-day weekend much more often. Matt and I didn't do too much except relax.. On Saturday we drove up to Santa Rosa and spent the night after watching Howl's Moving Castle. It's one of the amazing anime movies I've ever seen! Highly recommended. We came back on Sunday pooped - I'm getting so used to Pacifica's colder foggy temperatures that being anywhere else really wipes me out.

Monday we had a July 4th BBQ with fireworks afterwards. I had sooo much fun with everyone. We had hot dogs, Mark brought Korean BBQ, and we feasted! Yumyum. So much good food. We bought fireworks and set them off down the road. The group next to us was setting of bottle rockets, roman candles, and other assorted highly illegal fireworks.. it was great! As we walked back home, we watched the other illegal fireworks being set off around the city and exploding over the skyline. The night was capped off with hot apple pie and ice cream. Matt and I had a great time! We relaxed the rest of the weekend.. took a mellow bike ride and stroll around the mall. Love my baby.

Congratulations to Merima getting engaged this weekend.. I wish her and John decades of happiness!

And now for your viewing pleasure.
